About Us

About NONGOR

NONGOR (Human Development Foundation) is a community-based development organization working to eliminate poverty and empower marginalized communities across Bangladesh since 1999.

Our Journey

Born from the spirit of Bangladesh’s liberation movement, NONGOR emerged in the post-war period as a relief organization responding to humanitarian needs. Over the past 25 years, we have evolved into a comprehensive development partner, working alongside communities to address the root causes of poverty through integrated, rights-based approaches.

What We Do

Our work spans six core program areas:

  • Poverty Elimination — Microfinance, livelihood support, and income generation
  • Community Organization — Building local leadership and participation-based development
  • Education & Awareness — Skills training, rights education, and capacity building
  • Women & Children Development — Empowerment, gender equality, and child protection
  • Relief & Rehabilitation — Emergency response and disaster recovery
  • Good Governance — Transparency, accountability, and civic engagement

Our Approach

We believe development is not something done to communities but with them. Our participatory approach ensures that the people we serve are decision-makers in their own development. We prioritize:

  • Community ownership — Programs led by local voices
  • Transparency — Open operations and financial accountability
  • Sustainability — Building capacity that lasts beyond project cycles
  • Rights-based development — Dignity and human rights at the center

Where We Work

Based in Pabna, we work with communities across northern and central Bangladesh, focusing on areas with high poverty rates and limited access to services. Our programs reach over 5,000 families annually.
