Our Story
NONGOR (Human Development Foundation) was established in 1999 in Pabna, Bangladesh with a vision to find solutions for society’s problems and reach the marginalized communities in the darkest corners.
The Beginning
After Bangladesh’s liberation war, humanitarian workers came forward to help millions of helpless people. Our founders witnessed the struggles of rural communities—limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. They believed true development must come from within communities themselves.
Some enthusiastic young people in Pabna felt the reality of disparity towards the poor, absence of rights, and social injustice. NONGOR was born from sincere initiative to address these challenges.
Growth & Evolution
Though we began with relief and rehabilitation activities, we realized that proper, durable, and long-term development requires a different approach. From this understanding, organizing poor people, increasing awareness, and training activities began.
NONGOR adopted the participatory approach to development during the 1980s and has since evolved into a comprehensive development organization.
Today
At present, NONGOR is proceeding forward with firm steps towards building a new society by removing poverty and superstitions. We work with over 5,000 families annually across northern and central Bangladesh, including Pabna, Nilphamari, Pirojpur, and Dhaka districts.
